New units of financial measure

Alan Boyle posted a great article last Friday on the CosmicLog putting the financial bailout plan into terms that any space geek can appreciate, by measuring large sums based on the cost of various space projects.

One Allen is equal to about $30 million (the amount, in today's dollars, that Paul Allen invested in SpaceShipOne), one Apollo is $100 billion (again, today's dollars), one budget is about 3 trillion (the projected federal budget for 2009), etc.

Gives $700 billion a new meaning when there's something tangible to compare it to.
