October 4th

I've been silent here on the Launch Pad for far too long--something I hope to change soon--but I did want to chime in quickly to wish all of our readers out there a happy October 4th!

In case you aren't familiar with the date, October 4th is an important anniversary for space fans and X PRIZE fans alike.

On October 4th, 1957, the space age began as Sputnik, the first ever artificial satellite, rocketed into orbit.

On October 4th, 2004, SpaceShipOne completed its final flight and claimed the Ansari X PRIZE.

On October 4th, 2006, we announced our first ever non-space X PRIZE, the Archon X PRIZE for Genomics.

Take a moment today, wherever you are, to reflect upon the date. What world-changing changes would you like to see happening on or before next October 4th? How can you help make that a reality?
