Robot of the Week: RoboGames

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of attending the FIRST Robotics Finals in Atlanta, a massive competition pitting K-12 students from all over the country in head-to-head robot battles. And while the level of engineering and dedication I witnessed there was astounding (these are students after all), it's pretty hard to dismiss the sheer awesomeness of a good ol' robot death match. That's where RoboGames comes in.

RoboGames is the world's largest robotics competition, held yearly in the San Francisco Bay Area, with over 70 different events. These events include humanoid events like Kung-Fu and Golf, combat events in a variety of weight classes (separated autonomous and R/C), and even some pretty insane categories like bartending, music, and painting!

The contest boasts thousands of competitors, with tens of thousands of event attendees. I could probably go on for hours about how cool some of these competitions are, but I think these videos pretty much speak for themselves....
