Rockets! Rockets! Rockets!

This Saturday, two of the teams that participated in the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander X PRIZE Challenge plan to start flying their vehicles higher and faster.

Both Masten Space Systems and Unreasonable Rocket are currently planning to fly their vehicles at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry site on Saturday (3/20) near the Mojave Air/Spaceport. MSS will be completing test flights today (3/18), and then plans to fly to 1200 ft (the highest they can fly without a permit from the FAA to fly into controlled airspace) with their Xombie vehicle on Saturday. Xombie was the vehicle that  claimed the 2nd place prize purse of Level I of the NGLLXPC in 2009.

Unreasonable Rocket will be flying their "Blue" vehicle, which they also previously flew in a qualification attempt for the 2009 NGLLXPC. The UR team plans to fly tethered flight tests on Saturday morning, and if the results are positive, they also plan to fly to 1200 ft that same day.

Those of us at X PRIZE are excited to see the continued progress of the teams that competed in the Northrop Grumman Lunar Lander X PRIZE Challenge. Some of us who are fortunate enough to live in the area near the Mojave will be venturing to the site to watch the flights. Be sure to follow @unrocket @mastenspace and @glxp to keep up with the latest news from the field on Saturday!
